Burnout-Syndrom - Am I in danger?

... published October 24, 2007

Out of FuelAs my closer friends know, I’m quite a busy man. Not only do I have to go to school, take care of multiple websites (in my spare time!) and of course also my other tasks in real life, but I’m also part of a very old online gaming club named the New Republic Navy. If I count the time together I spent on each part, I bet I come to 16 hours of doing some kind of work.

Some of the work I do in no time, other work takes a lot of time. And then there is the kind of work I put very (too?) much energy into. Like my “job” in the New Republic Navy.

About a year ago I had almost the same situation I’m in now. I’m feeling exhausted, not willing to do anything, except one or two things I really enjoy. I have no interest in finishing or continuing some of my work (like one or two of my own websites…) and overall I’d like to sleep all day although at the same time I want to sleep at all.

As I had the same situation about a year ago, I came across a Wikipedia article about the so-called Burnout-Syndrom. After reading about symptoms and other signs of this sickness I decided to cut my online activity and engagement in many other parts of my daily life. A month later I was ok again, full of energy and ready to do what ever I’d like to do.

Today, I see those symptoms again and I decided to cut my activity again. But what is Burnout and what kind of signs or symptoms should you be aware of? Continue…

StumbleUpon - Getting boring?

StumbleUpon - Getting boring?I don’t know, but lately I have less fun using StumbleUpon. But why is that? I mean, it is still working the same way and due to the fact that StumbleUpon is learning which type of content you prefer, you always stumble through websites with something that interests you…at least most of the time.

Duplicate Content

is one of the major problems a StumbleUpon user encounters and there is no way to prevent this from happening!

I stopped counting how often I saw one and the same picture, article, “lolcat”…whatever…again and again. Usually, I give a thumb up the first time. The next time I just ignore it…and then? Well, if I give it a thumb down, it will mess up the system because although I like it, I say I wouldn’t like it… I wish there was a way to report duplicate content. Continue…

Yo, what’s up man? - Not much…

Yet another week passed with this blog being very quiet. So let me explain why I was so lazy had no time to write any kind of article.

Vacation

Happy Holidays…

…or vacations, which ever word you prefer.

This week I had vacations and I tried to enjoy them. I didn’t really succeed, but I didn’t fail either:
Originally I intended to stay away from the computer as much as possible, just to get some distance and to prove once more that I’m not computer or gaming addicted. At the end it turned out that I spent some time at the computer, mainly playing World of Warcraft and working on the homepage of Thorsten Kramer.

My vacations also helped to come up with some more ideas for articles, so stay tuned for them.

That’s all for now, I need to write some articles, if you excuse me…

Wait!

I almost forgot something:

Matt at Webmaster-Source announced that there will be a Webmaster-Source Podcast coming soon. He is currently looking for a title for said podcast and he is looking for a blogger willing to give an interview through Skype (or talk about some blogging-related subject). So have a look, maybe you are the one with the perfect name for the podcast…or you are one of those “on-air” with the podcast. (Yes, I told him I would be up for it.)

As I’m already talking about Webmaster-Source: Thanks, Matt, for having my blog on his list of “The Coolest Web Designs On The Planet“!

Thorsten-Kramer.de - The homepage of a German actor

... published October 9, 2007

You didn’t read much lately on here, now you will learn about one of the many reasons which hold me back.

Thorsten Kramer is a German actor who asked me a while ago to take care of his website. Of course I said yes, although I consider this work more a hobby than an actual job. Anyway, I believe that this website will help me in the future to get into touch of possible clients, so I put a lot of effort into this site to make it as perfect as possible.

Before I start to talk about details and features of the website let me tell you a little bit about how Thorsten Kramer and I worked together to make the perfect site for him. Continue…

Goodbye, my loved Aladdin

Aladdin in 1999Dear Aladdin, rabbit of mine.
I knew you since 1999, back then you were so little, I feared I would hurt you when holding you in my hands or on my arm.

The day we met the first time was a great day. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, it was warm…a perfect Easter day and of course you were the best Easter gift I ever received.

Since then we developed an interesting relationship. Although you didn’t hate me, sometimes you were like a fury to me. Maybe not during the first days…but after a year or so you found it funny to try to bite me. You needed to taste a human, didn’t you? You also scratched me, but after all, you always enjoyed it when I pet you or when you got your food…

Aside our special relationship we had a lot of fun…if you had no fun, then I had some…like that one time we went to your yearly check at the vet. You tried to escape while we waited in the waiting room. You jumped out of the basket we used to carry you around. As you landed on the floor-stone you learned that you will slip on there, making it very easy for me to catch you again. Well, the others people laughed about that, as did I although I was surprised by your move…
Or the first time we had you at the vet. When we learned that you are female although another person said you would be male…

In the last few years we kinda prepared ourself for the day…the day which will sooner or later arrive, no matter what we do.

Today, about eight and a half years after we first met I got a call from my grandparents. My grandma told me that you and grandpa are at the vet because of a serious wound. I grabbed the keys, jumped into the car and drove to the vet. There I saw the wound…I don’t want to describe it…but I knew that it was bad.

We waited about an hour for our turn, just to receive the bad news. It is not possible to cure the wound as it was discovered too late. I wish you would have “told” us about that injury earlier because then we may have been able to save you…

The vet told us that there is only one option left and so she went ahead, narcotizing you to free you from the pain…

Everyone in my family are missing you. At least I know you don’t have pain anymore…yet I wish I could have been together with you for a longer time…

Thank you for the 8 1/2 years of fun, tears, fears and love.
Goodbye, Aladdin.
Goodbye my loved rabbit.
Goodbye, I love you.

Rest in Peace
Aladdin in 1999
