My Radical Blogs Contest - Win 10,000 EntreCard Credits

... published February 18, 2008

I don’t remember how I discovered “My Radical Blogs“, I only know I found Lessca’s “1000 Blogs Against Whaling campaign” a couple of days ago.
After having a short look at his site, I decided to subscribe to his RSS feed because most of the content interests me.

Today, as I looked through my RSS reader, I saw his second EntreCard article in which he promotes a contest.

For everyone using EntreCard out there, this contest is your chance to win up to 10,000 EntreCard credits!

Read the rules, maybe you decide to participate and win those credits.

P.S.: Lessca’s “Blogging Is About Sharing, Not Competing” and “Bloghology - If you ever only download one ebook - this should be it” are also worth reading.

Ruelicke.net LogoAs you probably recognized already, my blog received some attention which resulted in an upgraded look.

It is not a complete “revamp” of the design, I still stick to my header image and the colors, but in total the design changed to the better…I hope…

What has been changed?

Stumblecards - a new “trend” of the StumbleUpon Community

... published February 14, 2008

The first time I stumbled upon such a “stumblecard” I had no real idea what are they for.

Fortunately I paid enough attention to the “stumblecard” to see the short description explaining what it is:

Congratulations…you have found a “stumblecard”!

The latest sensation sweeping the web, “stumblecards” are simply an online version of the humble trading card.
What’s so great about “stumblecards” is that you never know when you’ll find one.
There are many out there to collect so keep your eyes peeled.
When you find a card, be sure to bookmark this page or give it a thumbs up so you can go to collect them all.

StumbleUponI myself found two cards via StumbleUpon so far. I did not try a Google search as I believe it spoils the sensation of this, well, game.

Upon my research for this new StumbleUpon “thing” I had a few questions, like who created it and if there is a place which tells you how many are out there. Some questions I was able to answer. Continue…

Happy Valentine’s Day

... published

Happy Valentine’s DayI wish everyone a happy Valentine’s Day!

Did you know…

  • As a joke, Valentine’s Day is also referred to as “Singles Awareness Day“.
  • In Japan, the women are giving chocolate as gift to their husbands, male colleagues and bosses. In return they can expect to receive white chocolate a month later (March 14th, also referred to as “White Day” or “St. White’s Day”. Hence the white chocolate.)
  • The tradition of the Valentine’s Day is believed to have its roots in the myth of Saint Valentine who died as a Christian martyr.
  • Qi Xi is the Chinese equivalent to the Valentine’s Day.

Last but not least I direct some of my Valentine greetings to one special person.

My (online) girlfriend Viktoria:
I wish I could see you today and give you many roses. Usually you receive red roses, but if there is a rose with your name…I believe you can imagine that I prefer taking those. Aside the roses, I’d take up the japan tradition although it’d be altered a bit. I would give you white chocolate as addition to the roses.

Actually, as I think about it, I’d give anything just to be with you right now. I assume it would be a greater gift for both of us than any rose or chocolate could be.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

NicEdit Linebreak Issue - How to fix it

... published February 12, 2008

NicEdit - Micro Inline WYSIWYGA lot of bloggers decided to use NicEdit to give their commentors a WYSIWYG editor to style the comment if needed.

NicEdit is a very slim JavaScript WYSIWYG editor which works break, except that some of us bloggers, like Matt at Webmaster-Source, Michael at ProBlogDesign or I myself, experience an odd error when it comes to simple linebreaks inserted by the editor itself.

If you use <br /> on your own, it will work properly. But who uses it if he or she has such a nice editor?

About a month ago I posted the issue on the NicEdit forum and got a reply which told me how to fix it. The author’s forum name of this fix is ihsan and I asked him for his ok about publishing the fix on my blog.

So far he did not reply, so I just go ahead and share it. Full credit for this fix goes to ihsan:
